Ozzie Rescued From House Fire!

A fire started in the office area of Shirley's house while she was out filling horse troughs in the Lucky Horse Corrals. It grew quickly in the upper floor of the house. After dialing 9-1-1 Shirley went in with a garden hose to make sure the cats, a dog and Ozzie were out. She and neighbors moved Ozzie and Billy the Kid into one of the corrals where they and the other animals dealt with the chaos of fire crews from 5 counties who responded to the call and made a fantastic stop, saving the lower floor of the house.

None of the animals suffered any injuries.

Many volunteers and horse advocates turned out to help Bruce and Shirley deal with the fire and maintain continuous care for the animals.

LRTC has set up an assistance fund for Bruce and Shirley. Donations can be sent to LRTC, C/O Sharon Lamm, 11345 Silver Lane, Stagecoach, NV 89429. Checks should be made out to LRTC and should include a notation earmarking them for the Shirley Allen Fire Fund.

Ozzie had a little trouble at night, calling occasionally for "Mom." When Shirley would appear, Ozzie would settle down and go back to sleep. A couple of days later Pete, another orphan foal arrived and Ozzie benefitted from the companionship. (Pete was found on the range near Fernley.)

We took some supplies over on Thursday, June 14th. We found Ozzie alert, playful and much like any other foal his age. He even would show a little jealousy if Pete got too much attention. Ozzie's baby pillow was salvaged from the house was placed in his corral shelter. Ozzie still sleeps with his head on his pillow.

"I like to be scratched right there."

"Can we pick up your feet?"

"Good job, Ozzie!"

"And that's how we park out for the horse show."
