The story of Pete the Orphan

Neither dust storms or floods or fires can stop the LRTC Lucky Horse Corrals. (Please see Ozzie Rescued from House Fire!) Three days after the devastating fire at wild horse caregivers Bruce and Shirley Allen's house another orphan foal was brought in from the range.

The little colt was just a few weeks old. Shirley named him Pete (short for P.I.T.A. since he had a nasty injury on his rump.) The person who found Pete taught him to drink milk replacement from a bucket so he didn't have to be bottle fed. He was also very spunky and had plenty of vigor.

Pete is pretty comfortable around Shirley.
Pete's healing rump wound.

One theory is that Pete's band was startled by something or someone and Pete may have ended up on the wrong side of a fence or got tangled in some brush and got separated from the other horses. Fortunately he was found before he became to weak to recover.

Pete seems to be adjusting to Foster care quite well. He does occasionally present some sassy attitude. Little Ozzie has to keep Pete in line from time to time.

Greeting visitors.
"I like to be scratched right here."
Ozzie is a little jealous.
"Can you help me out?"
Running with "Mom."
A little attitude.
"I'm getting tired now."
"Thanks for the entertainment but it's nap time."
