Training Case Study:

"Black Bart"
Part Four

Coming in for a snack.

We took a lunch break and afterwards Bart handled the pole quite well. The wind was again picking up so we decided to just do some simple confidence building. Three of us sat in different corners with a bit of hay. Bart would come over for a snack and a rub, then the person he was with would point him to another person to approach politely for a snack and a rub. This was a real low pressure game where the horse had to think, follow directions and get a reward. Bart seemed to really enjoy this drill after which it was time to pack up so everyone could get chores done before the weather got nastier.
Checking in with Lee.
Getting a nice rub from Betty.
"Ahem! You're supposed to be ready when I come over!"
Coming in a bit closer.
The rub comes first, then the reward.
Well, maybe it comes after too.
Getting comfortable with Lee.
