KBR Training Case Study:

"Keno"
Part Nine

It was time to do some more trimming on Keno's feet. Sharon held her and she was real easy as far as her front feet went. She also tried to hold up her hinds, but she still had problems with balance. The right hind went OK, but she started to fall several times while doing the left hind, even with Sharon counter balancing her head.

Keno's hooves are starting to return to a normal shape but it will take some time before her columns stack up correctly and she can support herself as well as she should be able to.

Afterwards we turned her out in the front pasture for a while to hang out with Mello and graze. This was her first liberty in anything larger than the riding arena. After an hour or so I went out to retrieve her. She played a little bit of a "Catch me!" game but she broke it off after about a minute and haltered nicely.

Cindy and Patience had set the mark earlier in trailer loading so we let Keno get some trailer time. Keno was a little more cautious of the trailer, but not spooky. After giving her a few minutes to stand quietly at the door with her head in the trailer, she quietly stepped inside and we just hung out for about 5 minutes or so with the door open. Then she backed out and we loaded again. It was not past feeding time and Keno had been through enough adventures for one day.

I'm hiding behind the sand pile!
Can you find me?
OK, you found me.
I guess I'll let you halter me.
This "Step up!" business
is getting more complicated!
I guess this is an OK place
to hang out...
