"Hope"

Part Five

Scary stuff!
Fourth Week of Work, Continued

The predicted rain held off and we were finally able to have a several short sessions in a row with Hope. This continuity really helped her confidence and learning.

Eva Knott came over and did some more body work. We focused on Hope's scary off side as well as her legs. Hope's improvement was measurable.

Simple, quiet leading
Getting in on the scary side
Eva reinforced the leg work using the wand until Hope no longer reacted or fidgeted. Then it was time to test the waters.
Rubbing legs with the wand
Quieter flexion
Contact down the legs
A nice quiet lift
Our first objective was to run our hands down Hope's legs. We used short strokes with our fingers similar to the wand. Next she needed to hold her leg steady when we applied a soft grip to her lower leg. Next she needed to calmly lift when we applied slight pressure to rock her leg forward. When we lifted her leg, it was important that we put it back down before she felt she needed to take it back.

After lifting her good side a few times, we repeated the exercise on her difficult side until we were getting quiet lifts there too.
