"Nani" and "Spring"

Part Two

First day of "Spring"
(Continued from Part One.)

Continuing Progress

Nani reached the point that she could handle multiple people in with her in the round pen. We could poll her and also come up and scratch her. We felt she was safe to work in the safe squeeze. Nani did well in the squeeze, with several people giving her nice scratches on both sides at once. We could brush her, clean up her snaggly tail and she even let us halter her without a fight.

Her first day of work on the line was March 19. After a few minutes of work she went on her own back to the chute for some "time out." Figuring she had to be pregnant and not knowing when she was likely to foal, we quit at that point, gave her some hay and scratches, and let her mosey about the Learning Center.

The next morning (the first day of spring) our suspicions about her pregnancy were confirmed as evidenced in these photographs. She presented us with a healthy filly which, based on her arrival date, we have named "Spring."
