Day Two:
We rigged Brooklynn for ground driving, this time letting her also carry a headstall and snaffle bit. Once she got through playing with the bit we went out into the round pen where she worked quite well for Meghan, starting out better than she finished the day before. It quickly became clear that Brooklynn was ready for a larger workspace.
Working in a larger space.
Bending around objects.
Working a serpentine course.
Learning to stop and stand.
These objectives accomplished (including driving at a trot) we decided to return to the round corral and up the ante. We clipped on some Atwood boat bumpers (that act kind of like a rider's legs) and we decided to let her move around with the bumpers slapping her sides.
Willis driving Brooklynn past the storage racks to the round corral.
Attaching Atwood Boat Bumpers.
"Those are different."
Learning to focus with the bumpers bouncing around.
Getting in the groove and moving out on a light cue.
Soon working well at a trot.
Brooklynn briefly skittered a couple of times when she got too close to the rail and whacked a boat bumper into a pipe panel. After the second time she figured out how to give the rail enough distance so as not to repeat the episode.
We'll post more photos as Brooklynn progresses.
