  FIXED FOUR-WAY SIGNALS
In the New Millennium
Part Fourteen

  Erie, PA

Erie has a plethora of old Eagle four-ways scattered across town, primarily in the older districts. They all appear to have been upgraded with LED indications. Below are just a few samples of many intersections.

The unusual looking beacons associated with the signals are from an original Rad-O-Lite emergency preemption System where emergency vehicles could take control of traffic signals as they approached by means of low power directional radio transmitters. The beacons flashed a white light to indicate to approaching emergency vehicles that they had control over the signal.

Erie was a pioneer in the late 1950s in what became a broad-based industry that facilitated faster and safer emergency vehicle travel.
