West Nile Virus is a serious illness and within a couple days of its onset little Trucker couldn't get up or stand without assistance. He eventually reached a point when he needed the aid of LRTC's new rescue sling to stand, and even that he couldn't tolerate for more than a few minutes. Shirley and Bruce Allen set up the "MASH" unit where Shirley stays virtually 24/7 except when relieved for short periods by volunteers. With assistance little Trucker was handling his medications well, would eat and drink and the case veterinarian felt he had a chance of pulling through. "Billy the Kid," a young goat who is recovering from losing his hind feet would also keep Trucker company.
The following photos were taken on Sept. 4th when we went over with a few supplies.
The "MASH" tent.

We found Shirley and Trucker asleep.

A really sick little dude.

"You need to try to sit up, Trucker."

A view of the inside of the tent.

The "nurse's" living quarters.
(Shirley actually lives in the tent and sleeps on her "hay bale" bed.)
