Mustang Close-Up"Boise"
Linda and Boise (right) at Equifest, 1998![]()
Linda mentioned her idea to a few people and was shocked by their response. "You're crazy! Your first horse, a wild horse, and you don't even know how to ride!" Linda had watched her husband handle horses for years and had helped him with those horses, so she just knew she could do it! Boise was held in San Luis Obispo at the Madonna Ranch, and Linda adopted him on October 15, 1994. However, he came originally from one of the Nevada Ranges. His age appeared to be around 8 months old. When Boise arrived home it took about twenty minutes to unload him as he was very frightened. He would stick his neck out and chop his teeth as if to say, "please, I'm just a little guy, don't hurt me!" He appeared to have a great attitude and enormous curiousity. He had from the very beginning a great sensibility. Linda took things slowly and spent many hours with him and as Linda puts it, "He became my partner." Today, Boise is used occasionally as a schooling horse. He makes public appearances, such as demonstrating at Equifest. He has been to schools as good-will ambassador for mustangs and has helped to educate children on this unique type of horse. He has a very special way with small children and is very trustworthy with them. Boise and Linda are in training for trail, camping, and pleasure riding. He is courageous, forgiving, and loving. Boise is a good teacher and Linda holds him in high regard as an individual. Linda writes, "I now have three other mustangs and a 4 month old domestic-born colt, each and every one of them is so different. It's been truly a rewarding journey and I look forward to many more years of learning with my great pal Boise!" (More photos will be posted when received.)
