Clear Water
Willis Lamm, (C) 2005, All rights reserved She sent me on an errand so I drove to town. I got to the river and the bridge was down in the water, clear water. I had to go around by a dusty track. It added 20 miles to my way and back that water, clear water. It might have been muddy for a day or two Now it's a running so gentle and blue I have extra work to do because of that clear water. The team spied a rattler and they started to bolt. The buckboard lost a wheel with an awful jolt. We started ... to totter. The next thing I knew I had dumped my load. My drinking keg was busted all over the road, my water, clear water. The sun was climbing high in the noon day sky. The air in the desert can be mighty dry. I just had to say goodbye to my clear water. Steady girls, don't dance around. I just have to tie one more bundle. Then we'll be homeward bound where you can get some hay and rest. Loaded down with all these things, we can't explore the hills looking for springs. We'll just have to pray that evening brings clear water. (Instrumental) An hour after dark and the horses knew. The ranch was just ahead and away they flew to water, clear water. My carefully tied bundles, well they started to bust. The next thing I knew they were all in the dust, those treasures, I'd bought her. There I was, the end in sight. But the horses ran away with all of their might. Off through the darkness and headed right for water. You're late for supper, where did you go? Where are the things that you got? Well my dear if you really must know, they're all strewn about near the cattle lot. What on earth did you do that for? Well, dear I just needed another chore. I'll get to it but not before some water. I need a great big cup of that clear water.
