Horse rescue scammer operating in PNW!

Please read and forward. Please be warned that some of the material contained in the links is very disturbing.

The following information was collected and sent out by Allen Warren of the Horse Harbor Foundation, with assistance from other concerned groups and individuals regarding what appears to be a serious scam operation. While many legitimate groups need all of our support, we all have to be wary of con artists and scammers.

[Warning submitted by Allen Warren / Horse Harbor Foundation.]

Dear Work Crew,

As you know I got fooled and posted a horse last night that was just another in the long running scam by Samantha (Sam) Mildbredt and her cronies at the Zillah feedlot near Yakima, WA.

This one particularly pisses me off because they're using the phony name "Another Sunrise Equine Rescue" to collect money, a play on my dear friend and real horse rescuer Janean Dolezel's Sunrise Equine Rescue in Grapeview, WA. Janean is a neglected, abused and abandoned horse rescuer as am I and doesn't even work the feedlots.

It has been suggested to me that we use the social media to warn as many people as possible about this racket that has made these crooks literally hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years, money donated by well meaning people that could have ended up supporting our legitimate rescue work instead.

One of our colleagues who has tracked Sam and her activities over the years sent me the history below.

I don't personally do Facebook or write a blog, but know many of you do. The suggestion is that the best way to get the word out on these people is to have you post this and suggest cross posting to get it out to as many people throughout the country as possible. They are raking in bucks from all over and if we can't stop them, maybe we can at least put a dent in their ill-gotten earnings.

I offer this for your consideration. Allen

The true mission of any animal welfare organization should be to eliminate the need for itself.

HORSE LOVERS BEWARE: If you see the name Samantha (Sam) Mildbreth or the name Rebel Equine on any plea for funding to "save" a horse or horses from immediate slaughter, you are being scammed by one of the best.

This is a very long, long sordid story. It actually started out with Sleep Hollow – Sam Mildbreth’s first 501c3. She was convicted of several counts of animal abuse, neglect and hording. Then she popped up as the Columbia Basin Equine Rescue (CBER) and ran that operation until they lost their 501c3 for fraudulent handling of funds. They let the renewal of their status run out under heavy investigation by the IRS when a board member outted them.

Then about 2 years ago she started Rebel Equine which is a FOR profit org. She has made most of her money by reaching out to unsuspecting people across the country, getting thousands of them to send in $10 and $20. These are people who didn’t want a tax write off and would give anyway. She has made as much as $400k a year. there were days when she brought in $10k a DAY for horses that had already been sent to slaughter.

The following articles best tell the story, not just about the “scam” but about Sam herself. For instance:

She has dated the same guy for years, who she met while he was in prison convicted for child rape and killing cats.

Some very alarming links.
