"Magnificent Max"
Part Twelve

  MOVIN' ON UP!

Tammi and Max

Eventually the time comes for our hooved friends to go home. Max was pretty well settled in and Joyce was going to pick him up when she came down to show Sarge with the BLM mustang contingent at the California Horse Expo. I got Max out, put the saddle on and climbed up a few times. This was the first time I had actually sat on Max for any length of time.

During our second session of the day Joyce and the group arrived from the day at Expo and we met them out in the stable on the inside lane. Max was a cool dude and posed for a couple of photos.

The next morning Joyce's young friend Tammi Taylor climbed aboard and puttered around on Max. Tammi has a good way with horses and she and Max hit it off from the beginning. This was a good thing since Tammi would have time to work with Max back in Hydesville.

We practiced loading Max in Joyce's 3-horse and he did well. A short while later Joyce loaded Sarge for the trip and Max went in quietly into the rear of the trailer.

A week later we went up to Hydesville to visit Joyce and the critters and had a wonderful visit. Tammi and Joyce were getting along well with Max. We turned him out with one of the herds in a pretty large pasture and he raced around with the other horses, but stood politely to be caught. Joyce also let Max roam the ranch with Bumper the burro and her baby, Bumpkin, and aside from wandering into Joyce's guest apartment to do some exploring, he was a good boy.

The old (former) stallion had made a pretty good transition and seemed to be quite at home with domestic life.
