KBR Training Case Study:

"Chancellor"
Part Four

Next Kristi and Chancellor walked over simple objects in the arena ranging from bamboo poles to plastic pipes.

On their way back to his "home" corral, they walked past the tie pole area of the barn that had a number of visual distractions and shadows.

Saddle Up?

In about three weeks when Chancellor became trusting in Kristi when asked to encounter a variety of stimuli, it was time to start some basic saddle work.

This element of training involved basic round pen drills... learning to move forward, stop and yield to cues in the round pen. Then the saddle was added, with the drills repeated with less intensity. Being quiet and relaxed was a good thing. Then the arena drills were repeated with the saddle on. Finally the exercises were conducted out in the "Horse Course."

Taking obstacles with the saddle flapping became just as natural as anything else.
