KBR Wild Horse and Burro Information Sheet
|
Whmentors is dedicated to supporting the continued and vigorous presence of America's wild horses and burros running free on the lands they have inhabited for in some cases 400 years, as well as supporting a strong and healthy adoption program used by the BLM to control population. Other sound population control methods are also supported. Discussions include the BLM adoption program, the BLM program for feral horses and burros in the wild, feral horses and burros on non-BLM land, the BLM adoption process, gentling and training techniques, general horse care and particularly as it applies to the wild ones. This list is not meant to cover commercial uses of mustangs (it's not a free "for sale" bulletin board.) People subscribed to the list include past adopters who are experienced in handling mustangs and burros, professional trainers, new adopters, people who are getting ready to adopt for the first time, and people simply interested in and supportive of America's wild horses and burros. By continuing to subscribe to and/or read the whmentors list, you agree to hold the Listowner harmless for opinions expressed and/or any goods, services, animals, etc., acquired through the list or any of the list members. Opinions do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Listowner and the Listowner is unable to personally screen animals, services, etc. Subscribers are also hereby informed that the presence of any particular individual, organization or other entity on this list is not to be construed as a recommendation by the Listowner.
Diverse opinions are expected. Flaming, rudeness and personal attacks are not. You may disagree and debate, but do it civily - avoid name calling and sarcasm. Advertising: Advertising on this list by commercial entities is prohibited. You may, however, list mustangs or burros available if you are not in it for profit, as well as any equine goods that you might be selling as you would in a garage sale (not as a business). Remember if you're in business and trying to make a profit, don't use this list as a source of customers. The decision of the listowner is final in these matters. Attachments: DO NOT post ATTACHED FILES of any kind (.gifs or .jpgs, text, html, etc.) to the list -- attachments behave differently for differing email programs, and they tend to be large and clutter up the list, even causing the list to come to a halt on occasion. If you have a photo or something of that nature that you wish to share, you can post it to your private webpage and post the URL for us to check it out, or tell people to contact you privately and you'll send it to them privately (be careful not to send to the list by accident). DO NOT post HTML or RTF formatted messages. If you are using an email program (Mozilla, Outlook Express, Netscape) that offers the option of having html document style emails, please be sure that what you send to the whmentors List is in the form of plain text. Content type should read: text/plain. Many people on this list cannot read html formatted email messages, and boy does it mess up the digests. For Netscape Communicator 4.x, go to Edit, then Preferences, then expand Mail & Groups so you can click on the Messages section. First option there is "By default, send HTML messages" which is turned on when you install it. Just check that box so that it is blank. For Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (or Outlook Express), go to the top of the page in Outlook express and click on tools. Go over to options and click on it. then when the options appear click "send" and check the "plain text" box in the upper part of page -- at send mail. Virus Warnings: No virus warnings or chain email (basically chain email is anything that says to pass this on to everybody that you know) are to be posted to the list. This is off topic and really irritates other subscribers. Furthermore, most virus warnings are hoaxes, even those appearing to come from government or software manufacturer sources. Off Topic Notes While we appreciate that you might want to share a cute or inspirational story or a warning or a joke, there are over 150 people on the list and all of them don't appreciate receiving notes that don't relate to whmentors in any way. Short CLEAN (suitable for all age group) jokes are OK now and then. Just be sure to label it OT (for off topic) so that people can skip it. If we get too many off topic posts, we'll have to curtail them entirely. We don't want the good people who need the information on the list to unsubscribe because there is too much mail to read through that isn't helpful. Replies -- EDIT THEM! Please EDIT your replies so that we don't have to read the same original message time after time in replies to it - just delete the unnecessary parts of the message that you're replying to (and this usually means most of it.) PLEASE DON'T USE ALL CAPS It hurts the eyes and is difficult to read. It's also considered "shouting." Copyrights Please don't post copyrighted material to the list unless you own the copyright or have permission from the copyright owner. However, you may quote *briefly*. You can always post the URL to the information you would like to share with other people if it is on the net. Signature Files: If your signature file is over 4 lines (including blank lines after the text), please shorten it. Some of our subscribers pay for the time spent online downloading messages and it's not fair to them. We do suggest that you add either your state or geographical area to your sig line so that others in your area may interact with you. If you have a website, feel free to list that too. List Problems: If the listowner receives more than two notices that your email box is full and cannot accept additional messages (or cannot accept messages for any reason), the listowner will be forced to unsubscribe you from the list. If your box is full, no one can write to you to tell you about it. If you're with an ISP that limits email volumes, you may want to subscribe to the digest version and/or unsubscribe or go nomail when you're going to be away for a while. List Options & Features
