The training crew
|
The February "class" of horses at the Warm Springs Correctional Facility consisted of a nice mix of Nevada "Comstock" and BLM horses. The inmates have done their usual great job, riding many of them bareback, double and roping off of them. These inmates really love working with the horses, even "naming" them during the training program.
These animals will be offered at a public offering at the Warm Springs Correctional Facility at 10AM on February 8, 2003.

Bella is a Liver Chestnut Mare. She is 6 + years old and weighs 750 lbs., 13.2 Hands. Bella has been used in the program to introduce new riders to the fundamentals of horse riding for the past year. #8782 (Catfish):
Catfish is a Bay Gelding, 3 years old, 13 hands, and 750 lbs. Catfish is a real friendly
horse, who is responsive and would be a very good trail horse. He is not very fast but
he can run. This horse would be very good for a beginner. He enjoys other horses and
is calm around people. He has had all four feet trimmed and stands easy for it. He has
good conformation and loads readily into a trailer
Trainer: W. Hybarger & L.Fairchild

#7959 (Gazer):
Gazer is a 2 ½ year old Roan Gelding, 13 hands and 650 lbs. Gazer is a young inquisitive horse who readily accepts people. He is a good-looking Roan with solid conformation, and genuinely appears to enjoy his training. Gazer picks up o what you want him to do fairly quickly. I believe that he would be a good horse for a teenager, who is a beginning horse rider. This horse has a smooth gait and a very pretty lope. The words I would use to describe Gazers disposition would be mellow, intelligent and calm. However, he can be lazy at times, though once you get him going he’ll give you everything in him. He would make a great trail horse for someone new to horse riding, and he stands easy while you trim his hoofs and he loves to be groomed. Trainers: K.Cleghorn & A. Countryman

#8175 (Sonny):
Sonny is a 6-year-old Sorrel Gelding, 14.1 hands, and weighs 850 lbs. I've only been working with Sonny since mid/late December 02, and in approximately 3 weeks Sonny has come around surprisingly fast. He has started pulling a drag and the trainer has thrown a rope off him. He seems to really enjoy doing both. I believe that he would make a good ranch horse or a trail horse and he is very sure footed.
Trainer: Andy Countryman

#7971 (Twister):
Twister is a 2 ½-year-old Chestnut Gelding; he is 15 hands, and weighs 780 lbs. Though this horses’ name is Twister, he’s a very gently horse. Twister is very responsive and is willing to learn. When you go into his pen he will walk right up to you and wait to be saddled. You can pick hi feet up without difficulty and he has had all for feet trimmed. Trainer: R. Hamm
