  Westinghouse 24M
"Cuplight" Street Light

The 24M Cuplight was once an incandescent icon in such places as New York City.

This particular luminaire is interesting in that it has a non-decorated smooth bell reflector housing with a removable Alzak reflector. The fixture has a two-inch threaded fitter on top, and a standard "cuplight" type ripple glass diffuser (Model 2001) made by USC Glass.

The Alzak reflector has to be removable in order to install or rewire the luminaire. It has four dimples near the rim. The reflector is held in place by pressing it into the bell housing where four small spring loaded detents fit into the dimples.

Disassembled components: Alzak reflector, head with bell housing,
adjustable socket, 405 watt lamp and cup diffuser.

This luminaire was put back in service for dusk to dawn area lighting. Although it was tested with a 405 watt 6630 lumen incandescent lamp as shown in the left image below, when placed in service it was equipped with a 42 watt 2900 lumen CFL lamp that provides more than sufficient, pleasantly diffused lighting when mounted at a height of fourteen feet.

Power up testing after installation.
In service with a 42 watt CFL.
