Crouse-Hinds DT 4-Way

This was my first 4-way signal and one of the last to be restored. It was out in the weather for over 50 years. It is a Type DT. The doors are one piece castings that include cutaway (cap) visors. A couple of the visors were damaged and required locating replacement doors. Most of the screws and many of the latches were frozen, requiring regular doses of PB Blaster.

These are great old signals to restore, but those out in severe weather and having several coats of paint require a great deal of patience, TLC and ingenuity.

This signal will be restored to its original "Hunter Green." It will display a traditional New York style 2-color with "WALK" displays. (See Sesame Street - Cars Walking.)

Signal on the workbench.
Damaged visor.
Replacement doors with visors.
Restored top plate.

The DT signals originally came with fabric coated wiring. The wiring in this signal was pretty much intact, however I used it to complete the New Orleans DT that was easier to restore. I then removed the cloth wiring from the sockets in the New Orleans signal and built new harnesses using replica cloth wiring available from Radio Daze. I then resealed the sockets with black faux sealing wax.

This page will be updated as the cluster is restored.
