"Nyla's Gold" (Nyla)

Nyla was adopted as a yearling at the Augusta, GA satellite adoption by the Wahl family of Georgia. Elsa Wahl reports that there were many potential adopters present, so they took note of a dozen prospects on the assumption they would not get an early pick, although clearly their first choice was a light colored filly with a flaxen mane and tail.

Selection at this adoption was by lottery. 9 year old Katherine drew for the family and when she pulled out ticket #2, the crowd cheered enthusiastically.

The BLM staff were very patient and helpful. The wrangler that haltered her put a knot in the cob halter that the Wahl's had brought so it would fit. Nyla loaded easily in the trailer and after a 2½ hour ride, was safely home.

1st Day at Home (10 months old)

Several baths later, Elsa reports: "Nyla's mane is so fine and fluffy, we switched sides a couple of times. She now has her mane on the right side so her freeze brand will show. Nyla went through a very obstinate stage in her round pen work. She didn't feel like she needed to move around the pen when asked."

A Face Anybody Would Love

Looking good, Nyla!

March 1997 - 22 months. "Nyla was saddled for the first time at just before she was two. We had played with so many things by the time of her first saddling, it went uneventfully. She was very noncholant about the whole process. She has become a very responsive student."
