KBR / LRTC Training Case Study

"Blizzard"
(Formerly called "Blue")

A Virginia Range "Comstock" Horse

Blizzard when he first arrived
Blizzard is a mature former band stallion (now gelded) that was picked up when he and his band wandered down into the US-50 corridor. Our Foster Care people particularly wanted to take him in due to his classic, shaggy mustang appearance and quiet demeanor.

Blizzard was named by the kids at the Foster Care facility. His long, shaggy mane looked as if it had been caught up in a blizzard.

Visit to KBR

Blizzard came down for a couple weeks of desensitizing. We wanted to make sure that this older horse would have no problems making the transition to domestic life. The weather was nasty when he was here, oftentimes too foggy to take photographs, but Blizzard did well.

After a few short sessions Blizzard would tolerate being touched and rubbed with a bamboo pole, would come up and take treats by hand, was starting to figure out clicker training and was OK with several people rubbing on him at once in the safe squeeze.
