| Ride, drive, or lead your donkey, mule, zorse, zonkey, or zebra in lots of entertaining classes at our BADMS playday. Plan to have fun whatever your skill level. We will have barrel racing; obstacle courses for riding, driving and leading; donkey lead race; turtle race (slowest animal without stopping wins) plus many other games. This event is open to members as well as non-members, and spectators are welcome. The cost for participants for advance registration is $10 per animal for the day, and $15 per animal for registration the day of the show. Advance registration ends May 31. Spectators are free. Bring your own lunch, but refreshments will be on sale. For more information and directions, contact Linda Clark at 916-684-7512 or Nancy Hodges at 831-332-1422. For a registration packet, contact Nancy Hodges at the above phone number or via email to nehodges@ricochet.net
Schedule of Games
*Depending on number of entries, these classes can be run during setup of the arena classes. NOTE: If time allows, we will have a snigging competition at the end.
Definition of ClassesWater Glass Game: This is played riding. Each entrant starts holding an identical glass of water. Everyone rides around the arena at various gaits called out by the official. At the end of the class, the person with the most water left in the glass is declared the winner. Barrel Race: This will be the standard barrel race. However, we will have a trot only version and a cart version. This is a timed event. For the trot only event, breaking into a gallop disqualifies the entrant. Snigging: The harnessed longear pulls a log through a series of cones placed in a line in the same pattern as pole bending. Time and number of cones missed or knocked over determine the winner. This can also be done ridden by dallying the log rope around the saddle horn. Lead Race: The handler runs with the longear on the lead to a pole and runs back to the starting line. This is a timed event. Turtle Race: The objective is to be the slowest longear to walk the length of the arena and back without stopping. The longear can be ridden or driven. We can run "heats" with the slowest overall time winning.
Tack Race: Entrants draw numbers that correspond to a pile of tack at the other end of the arena. At the start they ride to their number, dismount, and proceed to "tack up" their longear with whatever gear is in their pile. They then must run or ride back to the start without any of the gear falling off. A handler will be allowed to stand by the pile of tack to hold the longear while the rider is tacking up. Dress-Up Race: This is similar to the above, but will be limited to smaller longears (under 48 inches?) and animals will not be ridden. Instead of running to a pile of tack, entrants run to a pile of clothing which they must place on the longear. They then must run back to the start. A handler to hold the longear will be allowed. Obstacle/Trail: Trail obstacles including bridge, water hazard, and various walk-overs are included in this course. One course will be for riders and another for people leading their longear (in-hand). Driving Obstacle: An arena obstacle course similar to those in the AMA rulebook which will be scored on accuracy not on time. All obstacles should be attempted. A time limit for each entrant will be imposed to prevent the class from becoming too long. Driving Cones: A course similar to the combined driving cones course. We can place the cones farther apart depending on skill level so drivers don't get too discouraged.
