KBR Training Case Study"Tonopah"Part Two |
Contact!
|
Day 2
The morning was pretty hectic as it was equine "dental day" at the ranch. Tonopah had a lot to take in and he was pretty much steady through it all. In the early afternoon a few people went in and worked him with a pole. Tonopah is pretty smart and he soon started figuring out how to position people by pressuring him by swinging his butt. He was too new around humans for us to try to correct this out in the open so we moved him into the chute. We started out in the pen using the pole, the same as we would have in the open. We didn't want to traumatize him but rather show him that being touched by humans was OK. It didn't take him long before we could move our hands around on him. |

Some nice back rubs

Shortly after James came in from the other side and we were both rubbing and scratching on Tonopah from both sides. He seemed fine with this around his neck, shoulders and withers, but he got pretty tense when we scratched around his rump. We quit after about 30 minutes and will pick up where we left off tomorrow. | |
