Training Case Study:

"Black Bart"
Part Fourteen

A "western" moment.

Glenn Meets Bart

On July 3rd Glenn Gable (Bart's adopter from Illinois) came out to see Bart. On July 5th, in spite of record 105 degree heat, he worked with Bart. We decided to let Bart take his lessons wearing a saddle. This was only the second time Bart had worn a saddle and Glenn's first time actually handling him. Here is how that day went.
Getting organized.
Bart checking things out.
Glenn starting some basic work.
Bart had a moment when he suffered a momentary lack of confidence and got a little "Western" for about 40 seconds.
"This is bugging me."
Willis getting things back into focus.
A much calmer eye.
"Hey Bart, want a drink?"
We decided Bart needed some greater mental challenges so we went straight out to the Horse Course. Bart had seen the Horse Course once before and had walked through some of the obstacles, but that previous activity primarily involved letting him see and get somewhat used to unusual things. Today we were going to go through each obstacle correctly.
Weaving the labyrinth. Working on body position and light directional aids.
Stopping neatly over the short telephone pole.
