Training Case Study:

"Black Bart"
Part Twelve

Bart the Saddle Horse

Pam Gorham was visiting from Chicago and did some clicker training with Bart. He enjoyed that. (Photos will be posted when Pam sends them.)

Betty spent time tossing ropes over Bart, putting various things on his back, and practical exercises such as picking up feet, etc.

Finally we had a day when we could see how Bart would handle a saddle and here are how things went.

Picking feet with the lead as a belly rope.
Putting different things on his back.
Bouncing the ball.
Touching Bart in unfamiliar places.
Introducing the bareback pad.
Wearing the bareback pad.
Bart was led over some ground poles while wearing the bareback pad to get used to the feel of something on his back and the cinch.
Wearing the saddle with the stirrups tied up.
We also walked Bart rigged this way.
Next we lowered the stirrups as shown in the next part of this case study.
