In her thrid week Cheryl and Annie were doing pretty well. Cheryl
could halter her, lead around the stable, take virtually and
obstacle presented and Annie would only occasionally get "stuck."
We decided it would be fun to see how Annie handled the trailer.
I usually put a couple of sprigs of alfalfa just inside the trailer on the floor in order to catch the horse's curiosity and provide a little distraction until they get used to the shadows. Annie walked nicely up to the trailer and checked out both the hay and the interior. Cheryl tried to ask her to step up but Annie was a little bit stuck. We took Annie back away from the trailer and reinforced stepping torward on cue with the clicker, then walked her back to the trailer. She made a couple of abbreviated attempts, then walked in the trailer deliberately and quietly. We gave her a few minutes to explore, then Cheryl unloaded and reloaded her a few times and Annie behaved quietly and responsively. By this time Annie had experienced a pretty busy day so Cheryl put her back in her pen for a break.
